Gaining Lean Muscle: How I Got Ripped Using The Truth About Abs

Because this is my uncensored story of gaining lean muscle. The ups, the downs, what stuff didn’t work and finally the one thing that did help me achieve my personal goal of getting rock-solid six pack abs.

There were 4 reasons why I wanted to get six pack abs. I wanted:

  1. To feel OK shirtless at the beach.
  2. To feel more attractive to my wife.
  3. To have the waist I did in college.
  4. To not be called "Daddy Fatty."

Would I Ever Have Abs?

Once I hit my mid-30s, the pounds just seemed to add on no matter what I did. I’m no couch potato, but clearly what I was doing wasn’t working. I always felt exhausted when I came from work, too tired to play with my kids, and I was barely fitting into size 36 jeans. I missed the days in college when I could eat whatever I wanted without gaining a pound. Sound familiar?

I Tried Everything

I’ve never been interested in getting huge, but in gaining lean muscle. I had tried ab machines, diet pill supplements, protein shakes, and various “fat-burner” diets – but nothing worked!

Fed up, I even made a New Year’s resolution that I was going to do 1000 situps a day until I had six pack abs. I was so pumped that I made a bet with my wife – that if I didn’t make it til February, I’d take her on a shopping spree. She was all over it like gravy on biscuits… I lasted 4 days.

Why Was I Failing?

Is Gaining Lean Muscle Impossible?

Hey, Dave here! Let me tell you my story on getting ripped six pack abs.

Ever since college, I've always enjoyed working out. I didn't want to be "huge" but I was interested in gaining lean muscle. However, the more I tried, the more I started to think that it was impossible. I worked out twice a week, watched my diet, avoided junk food, and even cycled when I had time. But no matter what I did, I just seemed to be getting fatter. In fact, I was getting "huge" -- but in the wrong way!

I secretly considered myself a bit of a health nut (although my wife's jabs about my "belly welly" sure didn't enforce this belief). How could you be a health nut and be overweight at the same time? Well, that's where I was. In my mind I was fit, but the mirror (and the scale!) told a different story.

I read Men's Health, took supplements, had protein shakes every work out, used whey powder, and tried various stimulant based products. I could definitely "talk the talk" with the guys at the gym, but had no personal results! I even broke down one time and bought one of those "ab blaster machines."
